The FMS Stories Experience is best viewed in Landscape!
A real treat for the ears, Sonic Stories is an auditory buffet of sound bites from Mass Communication (MCM) students taking the Advanced Radio Production elective, and an Industry-Based Project (IBP) at Radio Heatwave, FMS’ student-run campus radio station.
The Advanced Radio Production elective builds on the skills developed by MCM students in their first two years at FMS. Through the elective, students learn how to manage and position a radio station, as well as plan promotions using traditional and social media.
Additionally, they will be able to flex their creative muscles when they develop a proposal for a new radio station or the revamp of an existing one, and present it to a real radio company, such as MediaCorp Radio Pte Ltd.
While Radio Heatwave is a student-run radio station, they operate just like any other commercial radio station in Singapore. Students taking an IBP at Radio Heatwave are not limited to being radio jockeys; in fact, they have a wide job scope that hones their management and people skills. They liaise with real clients, hold in-studio interviews with local and international celebrities, and attend various press conferences and movie previews. Apart from being “The Hottest Thing on Campus”, Radio Heatwave is also an ardent supporter of local musicians with its 60% quota of local music.
Stingers are station-branding identities lasting 8 to 10 seconds and are usually used before and after a talkset. Radio Heatwave's stinger is a fun, pop-influenced tune that incorporates the station's name and tagline, proving that it will always be 'The Hottest Thing on Campus'.
This tune is certainly no stranger to our Mass Communication students as it's used in most, if not all of their Radio Production assignments.
Sweepers are station-building identities that help promote the station to listeners and usually has a concept behind it. This example follows a gameshow where the participant has to guess the name of the song.
Radio Heatwave has a variety of shows and each show has a trailer that announces the show's genre, topic and show hosts.
Micromixes are short mixes that can be used to announce the arrival of new songs or an event where multiple artists are playing, allowing you to showcase snippets of songs.
This example uses a micromix to feature new local songs.
