The FMS Stories Experience is best viewed in Landscape!
Published Stories features works from Mass Communcation specialisation Journalism & Publishing, where students get to hone their news gathering and content creation skills. Modules offered include Online Journalism, Print Journalism, and Photojournalism.
Online Journalism teaches the craft of curating content that appeals to the online market. As such, the course syllabus covers a wide range of techniques beyond those of the journalistic nature, such as video editing and infographic design. Online Journalism students also work to produce fresh articles for The UrbanWire, an e-zine helmed by a lecturer-in-charge and individuals who opt for an in-school internship.
Before the digital age, journalism can be traced back to its humble beginnings as strokes of ink on printed copies. Print Journalism students are trained to have a strong foundation in writing, while being armed with skills that run the gamut from being resourceful in seeking information, to spinning an idea into a publishable article. These works then make up the pages of HYPE, a youth entertainment magazine by the IBP team, and the webpage of the school newsletter, npTribune.
As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words”, and there is nothing that conveys the message more than Photojournalism. With less emphasis on the technical aspects and more focus on storytelling, students are exposed to the sheer honesty of human emotions through various well-known photography works. The creative freedom for assignments also allows individuals to provide a voice to those in need of one.
